TCC Past President Kevin Hughes and Area Coordinator Lynn Margaret Simmons are pictured at the June 2009 meeting, attended by some 50 members. Hughes gave a presentation on “Experiences Which Make the Endorphins Flow.” Says Hughes, “It is the unusual, the unexpected, and the serendipitous things one encounters out on the road which have always given me the most pleasure. It is almost magical when this happens, but it presupposes that you spend enough time in a place to experience and enjoy the moment.”

Area Coordinator Lynn Margaret Simmons reports that the April 2009 meeting featured the Philippines. Guest speaker Jeff Hutchinson visited merchant seamen friends in Bagupan City and Baguio City. The catered lunch was held at the Philippine Tourist Office on Fifth Ave. in New York City. The next meeting will be in October 2008.

Area Coordinator Lynn Simmons reports that the first meeting of 2008 was on January 19 at the Ko Sushi Restaurant. Ted Scull spoke about his return to Japan last May, after an absence of 29 years. He took a two-week, 10-port cruise around the five principal islands.

Area Coordinator Lynn Simmons reports that the May 12, 2007 luncheon meeting at the Croatian Restaurant, Trio, featured Laurie Campbell's recent trip around the Balkans – small fishing villages along the Croatian coastline and Dubrovnik; the ancient city of Durres and the city of 10,000 windows, Berat, in Albania; Macedonia; Bosnia; and Serbia. Forty-nine people met at an Ethiopian restaurant in Manhattan for the TCC New York area's March 3, 2007, meeting. Guests searched for silverware but there was none. We were expected to use the pancake-style bread to scoop up the food. The traditional Ethiopian food was delicious, and the espresso complemented the cake we had for dessert.

Afterwards, member Lee Abbamonte shared his experiences climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. What an adventure that was! He said he had never been so cold in his life, and as he climbed higher and higher, his pictures got fewer as he was too cold to hold the camera. But, he made it to the top. His later animal pictures of Ngorongoro and the Serengeti brought back memories for many of us. Finally, he took us to Zanzibar, an exotic destination.
