Happy to report that we had an enthusiastic turnout for our first 2013 Eastern Canada TTC meeting on April 20 in downtown Toronto.
During the gathering, 24 TCC folks were treated to an extremely interesting presentation delivered by our own chapter member Mr. Derek Smith. The presentation was themed “As far as you can go in six directions.” Derek chronicled 14 summers of travels with his family as a young boy through 10 Canadian provinces, 48 of the U.S. states, all 31 Mexican states and 10 other TCC countries – all by car all the way down to Panama! Derek shared many fascinating photos taken in the 1970s and 1980s, and even brought along the decades-old camera responsible for many of the pictures. True to his “six directions” theme (beyond north, south, east and west) he also shared elevation destinations with us (Mount Evans in Alaska, 14,000 feet above, and Death Valley, 260 feet below sea level).
Lynne Lim lined up the Mexican food for our lunch, which got everyone in the right mood for Derek’s presentation.
We welcomed Joseph Lee and Nathaniel Smith as a new members, along with Dillon Smith and Kristina Kramer as provisional members. Indeed, Nathaniel and Dillon are the sons of TCC members Derek and Joanne. The group agreed that the Smiths could be the most traveled family unit in Canada!
Also, Tim Skeet sent notice that a date is set for Western Canada’s first chapter meeting: Saturday, July 13, at Tim’s home from noon to 4 p.m., at which time Tim will host a Stampede BBQ (no charge). Details to follow on the TCC Western Canada page.
The next Eastern Canada Chapter meeting will be on Sept. 21 and Dec. 7.
