Many thanks to all Canadian TCC members who attended our June 2 meeting in downtown Toronto. I am pleased to say it was our largest gathering yet ,with 21 folks attending along with five guests. Everyone enjoyed a light lunch and beverages.

Randy VanDerStarren shared a terrific presentation with us about his adventures creating and filming his international television series for MSNBC. The theme of his video and photo showcase was “Two years, fourteen circumnavigations of the globe, thirty-three episodes; one lucky man’s behind-the-camera perspective of our incredible planet.” It was really well received by the group with Randy fielding lots of Q&A afterwards.

Congrats to Joanne Dillon Smith who recently recorded her 100th country! Rick Shaver presented her with a special “frog” cake commemorating her “leaping into the club.”

Special guest, former TCC president and current board member Kevin Hughes, arrived just in time for the meeting from Phoenix via Philly. Kevin was kind enough to bring us greetings from TCC headquarters and tell us some fascinating stories from his recent  adventures in Libya, South Sudan and Antarctica. He even passed around a piece of tile from Gaddafi’s bombed-out palace!

We are all looking forward to our Sept. 8 meeting when Jim Byers, Travel Editor of the Toronto Star, will be our speaker. He will give insights on how he and his team produce their award-winning travel section each week.

Warm regards,

Rick Shaver, Area Coordinator
