The Philadelphia TCC Chapter met on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Catahoula, a Cajun and Creole restaurant known for its award-winning gumbo, to hear from KPMG managing director Lisa Woods. She talked about her years living and working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, made all the more interesting by the fact that she was a Jewish woman in the land of devout Wahabi Muslims. Among some of the quirkier facts that she shared was the revelation that Colin Powell himself signed the pet passport for her Wheaton terrier. None of us had any idea that pets are issued passports, or that the Secretary of State signs them. At any rate, the eight members who attended the dinner enjoyed their hush puppies, shrimp and grits, incredibly good corn bread, pulled pork sandwiches, and Hurricane cocktails, enjoying conversation and travel tips on the outdoor patio as the sun set over the city.
Looking ahead to 2018, the Philadelphia Chapter meetings will be as follows:
- 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28 — dinner at Wah-Gi-Wah, a Pakistani halal restaurant in the University City section of Philadelphia; no liquor served; speaker TBA
- 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 20 — 10th Anniversary Party! Cocktails at the home of the chapter coordinator, followed by dinner nearby, venue TBA
- 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30 — dinner at Usaquen, Colombian BYO in Kensington section of Philadelphia, speaker TBA
In addition, dates for the periodic travel film series will be provided to chapter members once our host, Lou Bluver, sets the schedule.
