The Lawlers Sail the Seas But Gloria Gets the Globe!

President JoAnn Schwartz (left) honors Immediate Past President Gloria McCoy for her leadership on the board and term as president.

TCCers Michael and Barbara Lawler captivated an engaging crowd of 62 members and guests with their tales of circumnavigating the world aboard their 47-foot cutter-rigged sailboat, Traveler, focusing on their adventures in Yemen, the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.

Meeting at the Newport Beach Yacht Club on March 10, Charter Chapter attendees were enthralled with fascinating photos, stories of interpersonal contacts with local residents and encounters with pirates on the dangerous waterways all capped off with a personal tour of the boat following the program.

Earlier, new TCC President JoAnn Schwartz presented Immediate Past President Gloria McCoy with a crystal-based, solar-powered, rotating globe as a gift of appreciation for her two-year leadership of the Club, during some challenging times.

As self-proclaimed King of Rodonda (a small Caribbean island), Michael concluded his program by “knighting” Past Presidents McCoy, Pamela Barrus and Michael Sholer.
