Bruce Johnson’s African Adventure Featured at March 2019 Indiana Chapter Lunch

Dear Indiana TCC Members and Other Travelers,

Please save the date for the next meeting of the Indiana TCC Chapter, which is scheduled for Saturday, March 16, 2019 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Seasons 52 restaurant. It is located at 8650 Keystone Crossing, which is close to I-465 on the north side of Indianapolis. TCC members and other avid travelers are invited.

I can now announce the exciting details of this meeting’s speaker and program and request RSVPs.

Bruce Johnson is a native of La Porte, Indiana, and a retired elementary school teacher. Besides teaching in Indiana, he has taught as a Peace Corps volunteer on the island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean and as a Lutheran Missionary in the bush of Liberia in West Africa. He has completed post-graduate projects in international education at universities in London, Paris, Moscow, and Beijing. He also taught seven years in the Education Department at Purdue University Northwest. Bruce’s many hobbies include traveling and photography. He has traveled to more than 100 countries and all seven continents. Bruce appears on National Public Radio, the Travel Channel’s “Mysteries at the Museum,” the Biography Channel’s “The Ghost Speaks,” the radio show “Sword and Scale,” and “True Nightmares” on the Investigation Discovery Channel, as well as television documentaries in Norway and England.

He most recently traveled to Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia. His program, “My African Adventure,” will highlight the magnificent Victoria Falls, village life along the Okavango River, the amazing wild animals in Chobe River and Etosha National Parks, sea life along the Skeleton Coast, and exploring and hiking in the spectacular Namib Desert.

I have personally looked through 21 of Bruce’s travel albums from different trips and have found them to include stunning photography and insightful descriptions of each scene. Though I have not yet personally heard him present, I am certain that his personal commentary on his photos will be very interesting and entertaining since he is not a stranger to the performing arts. He has appeared in more than 40 roles in musical theater, including Sir Evelyn in “Anything Goes,” Motel in “Fiddler on the Roof,” Freddy in “My Fair Lady,” Charlie in “Brigadoon,” Richard Henry Lee in “1776,” and many others. However, I should note that Bruce is not planning to sing during this meeting!

As always, seating in our room is limited, so please RSVP by responding to this email: frank_basile@sbcglobal.net. Thank you!

Happy travels,

— Frank Basile, Indiana Chapter Coordinator
