May 2019 Pennsylvania Chapter Meeting Blends Aeronautical Adventures and Latin Fusion Fare

The Pennsylvania TCC Chapter met on Sunday, May 19, in Philadelphia at Cuban-Latin fusion restaurant Mixto, with former RAF pilot Roger Woods as our guest speaker. The dozen chapter members feasted on arroz con pollo, empanadas, and lomo saltado while hearing about Woods’ flights in remote regions, often in very unpleasant conditions, such as no lavatory onboard, nor heat in the cabin. Woods, now a pilot for a private company, has both helicopter and jet credentials, and has completed journeys across Canada and the remote Arctic, as well as from Colombia to Miami via helicopter. We thank him for making the time to be with us.

Looking ahead to our upcoming schedule:

Sunday, Sept. 29 – Café Lava in the Northeast/Bustleton section of Philadelphia; Polish/Eastern European cuisine; guest speakers will be married artists Tasha Doremus (British photographer) and Sebastien Leclercq (French artist) who travelled the world via unconventional means, including tramp steamer. They will be sharing some of their stunning travel pictures from their two years roaming the planet. Many of these photos have been featured at various art galleries in the Philadelphia region and around the world. RSVPs are due Friday, Sept. 20. This will be our final meeting for the year.

Looking ahead to 2020, our schedule (tentative) is shaping up to look like this:

  • Sunday, Jan. 26 – Kilimanjaro, Senegalese cuisine, in the University City section of Philadelphia; guest speaker will be the Sri Lankan Consul General who will speak about the recent terror attacks in that country.
  • Sunday, May 17 – Thai restaurant TBA in Center City; guest speaker TBA
  • Sunday, Sept. 27 – British restaurant in Center City (either Dandelion or Victoria Freehouse); guest speaker TBA
