“Scarlet Sails” is a timeless tale by Alexander Grin, first published in 1923. It remains one of the most romantic, dream-filled, and adventurous stories ever written. Since then, scarlet sails have come to symbolize hope, passion, and the promise of adventure—a belief that something extraordinary is bound to happen in our lives. These scarlet sails in Ilulissat, Greenland are a powerful beacon of transformation and fulfillment, reminding us that dreams can become reality and lead to profound change and connection. They move us forward.

U Bein is a 1.2 km teak bridge built around 1850 near Amarapura in Myanmar. Spanning Taungthaman Lake, it is thought to be the longest teak wood bridge in the world. Near sunset, monks, other locals and tourists stroll along the bridge. The best view is from the water. The lake is often smooth as glass at this time of day, only rippled by the oars of a charmingly painted wooden boat (powered by two oars) cruising slowly along.

It was a hot, humid and dusty day when I visited a rare nursing home in Mingun, Myanmar. I hailed a taxi and this is what came. In rural areas in Myanmar, I encountered many similar vehicles used to haul products to market, haul crops, pull farm implements and accomplish other work.
