April 2025 Virtual Exploration Program and TCC Book Club Update

Ukraine: Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Lviv
Saturday, April 19, 2025
2 p.m. Eastern Time (US and Canada)

For April, the Virtual Exploration presentation will feature a ten-day fact-finding/education trip TCC member Ed Hotchkiss took in Ukraine. He and and a few others visited three distinct regions of Ukraine: Kharkiv, Kyiv and Lviv. Each have been affected differently by the war with Russia and have a unique cultural heritage. This will provide a valuable insight on what has happened to Ukraine since the invasion.

TCC Book Club
The April TCC Book Club discussion is on Saturday, April 19, at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time and uses the same Zoom number as the Virtual Exploration meeting.

Our selection this month is The Man in the Brown Suit (320 pages, 1924) by Agatha Christie. A young and adventurous woman named Ann witnesses an accidental death at a London tube station. She is skeptical of the initial reporting and believes a murder had taken place. She makes a dangerous decision to investigate and her sleuthing takes her on an ocean voyage to South Africa. On the way, she analytically observes a cast of suspects to determine who is the murderer.

All TCC members are invited to participate.

Jamaica and Ogasawara: Ttwo Very Different Island Destinations
Saturday, May 17, 2025
2 p.m. Eastern Time (US and Canada)

The May Virtual Exploration will feature trips made by two of our TCC members to very different types of islands.

Steve Owad-Jones had asked for advice on the TCC chat group about Jamaica, and it appeared no one had been touring there recently. So he became even more intrigued with the idea of a longer visit. Steve along with Dianne Owad-Jones decided to spend a month exploring the whole island, away from the cruise ship/all-inclusive crowd. They encountered no security issues and lots of excellent experiences, so tune in and learn more.

Philippe Izedian recently made a quick visit to the Ogasawara Islands. With no airport in the inhabited islands, they are only accessible by a 24 -our ferry from Tokyo. After getting off the ferry he enjoyed hikes up to scenic viewpoints, excellent meals of fresh fish, and boat rides to neighboring islands. Philippe thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, friendly locals, and time in nature.
