The TCC Northern California Chapter invites you to our next quarterly luncheon and program at the Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco on Saturday, June 7.
SPEAKERS: Tom Hixson and Kevin Sarmento on Malaysia
Tom and Kevin started their recent Malaysian adventure by attending the Thaipusam Festival at the Batu Caves where they, along with 2 million devotees, ascended the 275 steps in sweltering heat to pay tribute to the Hindu pantheon. Next, a visit to Penang allowed them to soak up the atmosphere in the venerable Eastern and Oriental Hotel after exploring the city’s historic sites and its legendary cuisine. After Penang, they headed east to Borneo’s Kota Kinabalu where they enjoyed expansive beaches, Mt. Kinabalu, an authentic headhunter’s long house (with skulls!), and a visit to Sepilok to observe orangutans, sun bears, proboscis monkeys, and pygmy elephants. They concluded their trip with a short stay in the extravagantly eccentric Sultanate of Brunei.
