Thirty-two members and guests enjoyed a luncheon at the Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco on Saturday, June 7. We were pleased to welcome new members Marc Minardi and Dennis Edelman who each have traveled to more than 200 destinations on the TCC list. Also, we celebrated Lucy Hsu for winning the photo contest with her spectacular sunset picture taken in a forest of baobab trees in western Madagascar. Karen Grunert received her Silver Certificate for visiting more than 150 destinations.
Members Tom Hixson and Kevin Sarmento presented photos and commentary about their recent trip to Malaysia. The highlight was attending the Thaipusam Festival at the Batu Caves, where they ascended the 275 steps in sweltering heat with 2 million devotees to pay tribute to the Hindu pantheon. They also visited Penang and Borneo’s Sepilok to observe orangutans, sun bears, proboscis monkeys and pygmy elephants. They concluded their trip with a short stay in the Sultanate of Brunei.
