In April 2023, I was in Samarkand on the first day of my trip to Uzbekistan. Registan Square was my first stop of the day, and the grandeur blew me away. Being told there was a free light show in the evening, I returned to the square following a full day of sightseeing and a hearty plov dinner. I managed to find just the right spot, watched the show and clicked a few symmetrical photos of the Square. Registan Square during the day was marvelous, but the lit-up buildings, against the night sky, were ethereally beautiful.

Red Square in Moscow, Russia, is lit up at night. It is not only in the historic center of the city, along the walls of the Kremlin, but it is also constantly busy, attracting locals and visitors. Moscow was the last stop in Russia on my Trans-Siberian Railway trip from Irkutsk.

Wrocław’s Old Town Hall, in southwestern Poland, looks like it was built by someone with a thing for sharp angles and no fear of overdoing it. It was a clear afternoon when the sky felt just as expressive as the architecture, as locals and tourists moved through the square.
