Inaugural Meeting of the New Indiana TCC Chapter

Indiana Chapter inaugural meeting
The new Indiana Chapter held its first meeting on March 23. Front row: Jagannathan and Kanchana Srinivsaraghavan, Katrina Basile, Jean Williams, Irene Yacko; back row: Greg Schmidt, John Shaffner, Area Coordinator Frank Basile, Chuck Williams.

The new Indiana TCC Chapter had a successful initial meeting on March 23, 2013. During the reception, members and their guests told anecdotes about their most interesting travels and, in general, shared experiences with like-minded fellow travelers. During the lunch portion, Greg Schmidt presented information on the club and its country count, the Most Traveled People’s website, the International Travel News awards for places visited, and the ranking of nations according to the Human Development Index. He also presented handout material on each organization to those attending. In the business portion of the meeting, we decided to meet quarterly at the same restaurant.

The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Seasons 52 Restaurant at 8650 Keystone Crossing, close to the I-465 on the north side of Indianapolis. TCC members and their guests are invited. RSVPs should be sent to Frank Basile at frank_basile@sbcglobal.net or phoned to (317) 578-3585.

The June 8 presentation will be titled “Roman Sites and Post-Ghadafi LIbya,” presented by Jagannathan Srinivasaraghavan (Ashok Van). He will depict scenes from three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Sabratha to the west and Leptis Magna to the east along with Tripoli (three cities) formed one complex, and Cyrene or Pentapolis is on the eastern coastal area of Libya, the other complex. The bombed-out compound of Ghadafi as well as the souks (markets) of Tripoli and Benghazi and the revolutionary squares will be shown. In the mountain city of Garyan, the classical troglodyte (underground houses) will also be described. This presentation resulted from a week of travel in February-March 2012.

Jagannathan Srinivasaraghavan, MD, DFAPA, is Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and a practicing forensic psychiatrist from Carbondale, Illinois. He is Past President of the Illinois Psychiatric Society, Indo-American Psychiatric Association and is an active member of many professional organizations presenting and lecturing all over the world. As a member of TCC, he has visited 307 countries as of March 2013. He was the first Indian citizen to plant an Indian flag at the North Pole, and he visited the South Pole on Dec. 14, 2011, during the centenary celebration of Amundsen reaching the pole.
