The Travelers’ Century Club list of countries and territories now stands at 330 with the sub-division of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Why?
Situated in the western Caribbean, these two islands are recognized separately under rule 3, which states: “Federations: A geographic entity which is a federation of separate geographically definable entities, each of which is a separate republic/emirate/kingdom in its own right, shall be counted as separate territories.”
The country is a constitutional monarchy, formally recognized as the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis.
Saint Kitts is the larger island which is often accessed by cruise ships or flights into Basseterre. It is popular to take the circular tour around the island aboard the St. Kitts Scenic Railway with a stop at the UNESCO Brimstone Hill Fortress, the largest fortress ever built in the western Caribbean. Both are worthy to be on any must-see list.
Hop aboard a 30-minute ferry to cross The Narrows and you arrive on Nevis. The island markets itself as an island jewel where the “vibe is relaxed, the landscape is lush and the view is majestic and mountainous.”
