The Pennsylvania TCC Chapter met for its midyear meeting at Mahalo Hawaiian Grill in Queen Village. The scheduled guest speaker, a physician who immigrated to the U.S. 25 years ago as Venezuela was collapsing into a dictatorship, unfortunately had to cancel amid a bout of food poisoning. But this gave the group an opportunity to catch up socially and to swap stories from their favorite new countries. We also had the pleasure of welcoming a new member, Doug Daub, to our fold.
The restaurant, the only authentic Hawaiian restaurant in the Philly metro area, had been featured on the local ABC news affiliate just 48 hours before the meeting. As a result, the kitchen was BUSY. The food was deserving of the rave reviews and our members really enjoyed themselves.
Our final meeting of the year will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 5 p.m. at Bolo, a Puerto Rico cuisine fine dining establishment that was shortlisted for the James Beard Awards 2025, Mid-Atlantic. Our scheduled guest speaker is the CEO of local immigrant services nonprofit The Welcoming Center. As always, RSVPs are required one week prior to all meetings.
