Area Coordinator J. Herbert Goebels reports — “After the German TCC staged the first five meetings in better known cities like Bonn, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, we will hold our next meeting in seldom-visited Bremen, a port city on the long Weser Estuary.”
It will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., at the Inter City Hotel at the Bremen Main Rail Station. Cost of the seminar, buffet luncheon, coffee/tea/2 soft drinks, is Euro 65.
Herb tells more about Bremen — “The town has some 600,000 inhabitants and, according to the city’s coat of arms, is Germany’s key to the World, versus Hamburg which is called the ‘Gate’ to the World. Bremen itself is the oldest German maritime city, dating from 965 when it was awarded market rights. In 1385 it joined the Hanseatic League and in 1646 it was declared a Free Imperial City. In 1783 it began to trade with America.
“By tradition it is a coffee and cotton port … But Bremen is also a cultured town where the Weser Renaissance style flowered … On the broad market square … elegant buildings of the 16th century formerly housed the guild of merchants.
“For those who enjoy good food there is a typical Bremen dish: Braunkohl met Pinelwurst (cabbage and black pudding sausage),” Herb adds.
