Members of the Western Canada Chapter gathered on May 15 for a luncheon in Calgary and were treated to a presentation by guest speaker Jim Thorsell of UNESCO. The TCC members were in awe of Jim’s presentation as he used a laminated map of the 800 protected areas he has directly been attached to, to discuss the work of UNESCO.

“His passion for adventure into the wild led him to participate in field missions to over 800 protected areas in 90 countries and conduct 150 natural site evaluations during his 20 years at IUCN [International Union for Conservation of Nature], where he is now Senior Advisor and a Member of the World Heritage Panel.”
