Sincere thanks to Dr. Phil Tanner who put together a great presentation, taking us through the fascinating world of “Borders: Lines and Boundaries that Impact Lives and Shape Travel” — well beyond traditional country borders as we know them today.
He reminded us about a range of worldwide borders: ancient ones like Hadrian’s Wall, and China’s Great Wall, microstate borders, regional borders (within nations), linguistic borders, maritime borders, and even natural borders like the Sahara Desert which separates in theory sub-Sahara countries from northern ones. Additionally, he spoke about other types of borders, including military ones like the DMZ between the Koreas, and the green line in Cyprus.
Dr. Phil did a great deal of excellent research for this presentation, and if you’d like a copy of it, please let me know.
Coincidentally, the TCC Canada Chapter was able to congratulate our featured speaker Dr. Phil as well for attaining 150 TCC Country & Territory status.
The group was also able to share “wall maps” of which many members use to keep track of places visited around the globe.
2026 TCC Canada Chapter Meeting dates:
- Saturday, April 25
- Saturday, Sept. 19
- Saturday, Dec. 5
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season and a great new year filled with fulfilling world travel to new places.
