Next Meeting of the Indiana TCC Chapter on Sept. 30

Dear Indiana TCC Members and Other Travelers,

The next meeting of the TCC Indiana Chapter is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Seasons 52 restaurant. It is located at 8650 Keystone Crossing, which is close to I-465 on the north side of Indianapolis. TCC members and other avid travelers are invited.

We are very pleased to have Sally Brown Bassett, Ph.D. as our featured speaker. She is the former president/CEO of the Ambassadair Travel Club, world traveler, sacred activist and Yoga instructor. Sally has traveled to over 140 countries and has held numerous positions from flight attendant to C.E.O. She went from the galley to the boardroom in 30 years in the travel industry.

Her travel eventually evolved to a mixture of volunteering and tourism, a concept known as voluntourism, which she helped coin. She completed her doctorate degree at Purdue University in tourism with emphasis on international humanitarian work.

Sally’s desire has been to make an impact with global sustainable projects on trips she has offered. Projects have included helping to build a birthing center and an elementary school in Uganda, supporting a children’s home in India and a preschool in Kenya, and currently operating the International Center for Girls in Costa Rica through her foundation.

She is an adjunct professor at Butler University, teaching yoga basics and philosophy. Sally continues to teach at the “Peace Through Yoga” studios, which she originally founded in 2002. She is also founder of the “Peace Through Yoga” Foundation, a nonprofit organization where the mission is to make an impact through transformational yoga and service.

She will relate some of her travel experiences via an organization which greatly accelerated the travel of thousands of Hoosiers. Based upon my visits with her during the heady days of Ambassadair, I know that she will inform and inspire our members. A personal note: Half of the countries that Katrina and I have visited were with Ambassadair in the early days, and we always found their trips and service to be informative, well-organized and interesting.

We have another treat at this meeting. Sally will be introduced by Charlie Jones, who has traveled to more than 100 countries, but more importantly, was one of the original investors in both the Voyageur (the forerunner) and Ambassadair travel clubs and is a personal friend of the ATA/Ambassadair founder, George Mikelsons. He will provide a few anecdotes on the early days of this iconic travel club.

Please RSVP to me by email. Thanks!

Happy travels,

Frank Basile
