Charter Chapter Features North African Adventures; Accomplished Travelers are Honored

Presenter Matthew Allison describes his adventures across North Africa, Somalia and Saudi Arabia (see more photos from the meeting below)

Matthew Allison shared his fascinating “Adventures Across North Africa” as well as Somalia and Saudi Arabia at the March 9 meeting of the Charter Chapter in beautiful Newport Beach, California. Highlights of his journey included a visit to Cairo’s City of the Dead, hitchhiking on the iron ore train across the Sahara in Mauritania, crossing the rebel-controlled “no-man’s land” in Western Sahara, searching for an ancient castle in the Algerian “sand sea,” navigating the dangerous streets of Mogadishu, Somalia, and cave exploration in Saudi Arabia.

Meeting harborside at the Newport Beach Yacht Club, 57 attendees also applauded several destination achievements as President JoAnn Schwartz recognized the 300 countries visited by Sonja Gregurek and John Estrada as well as travel accomplishments of TCC Past Presidents Gloria McCoy (200) and Michael Sholer (150).
