Crossing the Caucasus by Taxi: Report From the June 2019 Charter Chapter Meeting

Presenter Bill Altaffer receives recognition for his fascinating Black Sea to Caspian Sea program at our June meeting.

More than 40 TCC members and their guests met at the historic Tam O’Shanter Inn in Los Angeles, then traveled with Bill Altaffer on his adventures from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea by way of two dozen taxis!

Our veteran member presented a fascinating program of how he crossed the Caucasus Mountains from Sochi to Makhachkala using a “pony express of taxis” to keep a low profile through 11 territories (oblasts, krays, etc.). There is never a dull moment on Bill’s journeys as this adventure aptly demonstrated.

At our quarterly meeting on June 8, we also welcomed our newest TCC Director, Stefan Krasowski of Seattle, Washington, and recognized Kirsten Loumeau upon her achievement of Gold Level status (200 countries). A new Full Member and three new Provisional Members were also recognized.
