The TCC Eastern Canada chapter had a really great meeting in downtown Toronto on Saturday, Nov. 26t. Sixteen of us attended, including first-time attendee Marnie Bracht, and Derek Smith who recently chalked up his 100th country!
The group enjoyed an excellent insightful presentation by Mr. Andrew White. His topic was “The lighter side of world travel: from the sublime to the ridiculous.” Andrew touched on his travel roots with funny stories about his parents as they traveled the globe together, some fascinating tales about his trips to the Arctic, his chaperoning of famous Middle Eastern VIPs on luxury excursions, and some tales around his Indonesian boat trips. Engaging and sometimes hilarious for sure! As a thank-you, Rick Shaver presented Andrew with a Cuban cigar and a bottle of Gentleman Jack Daniels on behalf of the group.
While Andrew provided a “dim sum” of stories, chapter members also had a catered dim sum meal, which was enjoyed by all.
We also had a smart presentation from John Boddy with some thought-provoking ideas about a country point system.
As a group we also navigated the new TCC website and folks were very impressed with the new content, navigation and features.
Our next meetings (topics and locations TBD):
- June 2, 2012 – 12 noon
- September 8, 2012- 12 noon
—Rick Shaver, Area Coordinator
