Jan was born in the American Hospital in Linz, Austria, after World War II. Her father was the Air Force Administrator of the Hospital. During the war her mother escaped to Austria from Estonia and was later employed at the Hospital.
Living at the Air Force base in Bordeaux, France, during the De Gaulle era, Jan became fluent in French and later attended the Sorbonne in Paris and the University of Madrid in Spain where she learned Spanish.
She taught the sixth grade for a couple of years and then became a flight attendant for Pan American World Airways for 20 years. She is now a part-time travel agent.
When Pan Am went out of business in 1991 she became the Southeast Florida Area Coordinator for TCC to help maintain her passion for travel. She has traveled to about 100 countries and her favorites are France, Italy and Tahiti. This summer she is planning a stay in Venice, Italy, to study Italian of the Instituto di Venezia.
She lives in Miami with her husband, John. They have a son, Mike, and now they are proud grandparents of Mike and Lissette’s son, Shaun, born earlier this year. Jan has been playing on the South Florida Women’s Doubles Tennis Teams for 30 years and loves swimming, biking, gardening and photography.
