Photojournalist Jonathan van Bilsen Featured at May 2016 TCC Gathering in Toronto

Hello World Travelers,

A reminder about our next TCC Eastern Canada meeting, our first get together of 2016 scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 12 noon at The Hive office  (544 King St. West). Our subsequent 2016 meetings are scheduled for Sept. 10 and Dec. 10 – both are Saturdays.

As usual, we will arrange for a light lunch with a nominal charge. Please be kind enough to RSVP your attendance to me in the immediate future so we can plan refreshments accordingly.

First, I have good news . You’ll recall in 2015, one of our guest speakers, photojournalist Jonathan van Bilsen, had to reschedule his visit with us as a result of a work commitment. I am pleased to confirm that he is our speaker for our May 14 meeting. The theme of Jonathan’s talk will be “A World of Paradox.”

As a reminder, Jonathan has written nine books and numerous articles, and has photographed some of the most exotic locals on our planet. He currently writes monthly columns for two newspapers and a magazine and his daily blog can be followed at photosNtravel.com. Jonathan has spent most of his adult life travelling, photographing and writing about wonderful locations around the world. Along the way, he has been recognized extensively for his professional and charitable work, including receiving the prestigious Patron of the Arts Award, ‘Best’ Photography Studio in North Durham (10 years in a row), the Ontario Heritage award, was selected to the Mayor’s Honor Roll for 2015 and was recently honored by Canada’s Minister of Veterans Affairs.

Secondly, I have more good news. For our meeting, as always, we’ll have an interactive feature. Please come prepared to share a memorable experience or story with the group, this time centered on:

Boat travel … the most interesting, unusual, scary, and/or hilarious boat trip you have had during your travels. If you have a photo, memento, or any other props to help illustrate and tell the story, please bring them along!

Don’t forget to RSVP your attendance when you can. Let’s begin 2016, the seventh year of our TCC chapter’s existance, with as many new and old faces in attendance to share our passion for travel.

Warm regards,

Rick Shaver, Eastern Canada Chapter Coordinator
