Hello World Travelers,

On May 14 our chapter members were treated to a spectacular collection of photographs and interesting commentary by photojournalist Johnathan Van Bilsen. Under the theme of “A World of Paradox,” Jon shared his pictures of people, places and culture from such destinations as Cambodia, Alaska and Egypt. More of Jon’s magnificent photos can be found on his website: www.photosNtravel.com.

Colin Stevenson presented our customary gift of premium libation as thanks to Jon on behalf of the group.

Congratulations to Barb and Doug Storey for reaching the 100th country milestone, with visits earlier this year to Robinson Crusoe, Easter Island, Pitcairn Island, Fakarava and Rangiroa Islands and ending in Tahiti. An official pin ceremony took place at the meeting with Doug accepting on behalf of his wife.

Members were asked to come prepared to share a favorite and/or memorable boat trip that they had taken over their travel histories, and several very interesting ones were recounted. The Star Ferry in Hong Kong (David Selley), The Aland Islands (Nathanial Smith), Digby Basin (Joseph Lee), Mumbai Harbour (Steve Johnston), Doing “pirate drills” along the Somalia coast (Marni Bracht).

Our next 2016 meetings will take place Sept. 10 and Dec. 10. More information regarding these meetings will be forthcoming shortly. Meanwhile happy travels, and I look forward to seeing everyone in the fall.

Warm Regards,

Rick Shaver, Eastern Canada Chapter Coordinator
