Pennsylvania Chapter Update: September Meeting Report and 2020 Meeting Plans

The Philadelphia TCC Chapter held its final meeting of 2019 on Sunday, Sept. 29, at Café Lava, a local favorite for Eastern European and Polish cuisine. As the group dined on pelmeni, goulash and schnitzel on the restaurant’s patio, we heard from artist and photographers Sebastien Leclercq and Tasha Doremus, who traveled from Finland to Spain via cargo ship in 2014 and did incredible photographs of the journey, which became the “Majestic Monotony” exhibition, displayed at various venues in Finland. (Google “Majestic Monotony” for a look at a small selection of their stunning work.)

Looking ahead to 2020, our meeting schedule will be as follows. Keep in mind that meeting RSVPs are always due a minimum of ONE WEEK PRIOR to the meeting:

  • Sunday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. – Kilimanjaro, Senegalese cuisine; 4317 Chestnut Street. Guest speaker: Christine Gray Faust of CruiseCritic.
  • Sunday, May 17 at 5 p.m. – XianDu, Thai cuisine; 1119 Walnut Street. Guest speaker: the Consul General of Sri Lanka, who will address the recent uptick in Tamil violence in the country.
  • Sunday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. – British pub TBA, guest speaker TBA.
