The Southwest Florida Sarasota TCC chapter met April 5 at member Alan Burdick‘s lovely travel photo filled home over looking the Manatee River for a delicious lunch. It was a lively meeting. Most members have recently returned from travel and/or have plans for international travel in the upcoming months. Many have been to Europe, and four attendees made it to Expo during the six-month event.
Discussion featured the exciting news that Aya‘s Mom, Eugenie Clark, well known as “Shark Lady,” is being honored by the United States Postal service by being featured on a forever stamp released May 4.. Eugenie was a pioneer in marine biology. She is being honored for her decades of research on aquatic life and sharks. She was a trailblazing scientist and explorer who made use of submersibles and emerging dive technology in her research. A ceremony will be held at the Mote Marine Laboratory, which she built in 1955.
