Joint Meeting of the Illinois TCC Chapter and the Circumnavigators Club of Chicago

The Circumnavigators Club of Chicago invites Chicago-area TCC members to join them for a dinner and presentation on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cliff Dwellers Club overlooking Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. The venue is located on the 22nd floor of 200 South Michigan Ave., with discounted parking available at the Adams and Wabash Self Park 17 East Adams Lot.

Dr. Nina Kraus of the Northwestern University Brainvolts Laboratory will present a program on “the Sounds of Languages.”  As a biologist and amateur musician, Dr. Kraus thinks about sound, brain health and how it impacts our lives. Her research found that sound, for better (musicians, bilinguals) and for worse (concussion, hearing loss, noise) shape how our brain makes sense of the sounds we hear regardless of the language. Her book, Of Sound Mind -How our Brain Constructs a Meaningful Sonic World, was written for the intellectually curious.

The cost is $65 person, payable by Sept. 15. Click to RSVP and pay online via EventBrite.com »
