In March, 2024, the New York TCC Chapter organized a meet-up and study tour in Senegal with co-coordinator Sherri Donovan as tour leader and celebrity musician Mamadou Yade of Mamadou Waflash as the local indigenous Lebou guide.
TCC members from California, Canada, New York, Florida, New Jersey, and Maryland participated in calabash and music classes, lectures on Senegalese art, design and cooking demonstrations.
The opening and closing parties were held at the sustainable Art Helping Life Centre in Somone, a historic fishing village south of Dakar on the Atlantic Ocean. Excursions included Gorée Island, Bandia Reserve, the Museum of Black Civilizations in Dakar, and the Bird Sanctuary and Lagoon, a national park on Petite-Côte.
