The fall 2024 meeting of the TCC Arkansas Chapter was held on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the home of Marcia and Dr Steven Clift. We expected more than a dozen to attend, but football weekend in Arkansas cut the number of attendees. It was a wonderful time — in fact our meeting extend to three and a half hours. Some program highlights:
- Linda Bell was awarded the 200 country certificate.
- Wilma Drummond received our Okie-225 recognition.
- We re-capped the great time at the TCC International Conference in the Azores with my scrapbook, with non-attendees regretting not going.
- We put 2026 on the calendar for next international TCC gathering.
- Christina Myers gave a presentation on Cyprus, marking the 50-year anniversary of the Turkish invasion that separated the island in thirds — all counting in the TCC tally. Some sad history with the speaker being a 14-year-old at the time living with the atrocities that occurred.
Following the presentations we enjoyed two topical desserts that were emblematic of the TCC motto, “The passport to peace through understanding.” Christina brought basbousa, a semolina/ yogurt cake that is a Greek Cypriot delicacy. Linda brought a Turkish dessert, tres leches lotus cake.
As far as the topic de jour — “How have our traveling choices changed in our lives with regard to the importance of increasing our country count versus life experiences” — hey, we want it all but feel it tilts more towards memories as we age.
Cheers,
Steven Clift
