  • A Festive October Gathering in the Texas Hill Country and a Preview of Our November Zoom Meeting

On Saturday, Oct. 12, twenty-seven members and guests met at the Driftwood Estate Winery, which is owned by members Kathy and Gary Elliott.

Gary gave an in-depth talk on wine and vineyards in Texas, and Kathy, who worked with Bert Hemphill, the founder of the TCC, said the best thing she brought back from a trip was her future husband. The chapter welcomed our new members Jim and Sue James, and Daiva Likas-Hudson and James Hudson. We sat on the patio of the beautiful Driftwood Bistro hilltop view overlooking the vineyard which we had visited 12 years previously.

In introducing themselves, everyone gave particulars of their last and future trips. The theme of the meeting was “Show and Tell!” with items from trips. There was a totally wooden sombrero, a native dress from Bhutan, a model boat, and many other amazing items. As you can see from the picture the weather was perfect for an outdoor meeting.

Our next event will be a Zoom meeting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, during which we will share “K” photos with the group. Please check your pictures for destinations and themes beginning with the letter “K” (hints: Kazakhstan, Kaliningrad, Kangaroo, Kansas, Komodo Dragon, etc). It’s always interesting to see other members’ pictures of places we’ve been or hope to go.

When submitting photos for the event, please let us know the location, the year, and if there is a story. If you are traveling, send the story to us and we will stand in for you. If sending pictures, please limit it to 20 pictures and send them by Nov. 9. Alternatively, you may share your pictures during the meeting; if screen sharing, you can share more pix!
