    Fellow Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana Chapter Members!

    On Saturday, Sept. 12, Austin-area members met at 10 a.m. for a boat ride down Lake Austin past some of Elon Musk and Michael Dell’s homes. We had lunch at the C`ounty Line BBQ on the lake. After lunch we returned to Isabelle Keller‘s beautiful home overlooking Austin for a global mask quiz of Isabelle’s masks. Jordan Hargrave gave an enlightening presentation on the Pacific Islands of Norfolk, Lord Howe, Pitcairn, Wallis and Futuna, and Niue with historical information and gorgeous pictures. We Zoomed Bob Young in Houston and sang him Happy Birthday on his 89th year. We acknowledged the status change of Wilma Drummond (250), Magali Hinojosa (300), and her daughter Magali Preston (100). The program ended with a cake and Champagne celebrating Mark Russell’s birthday.

    Coming up:

    Our great friends, the Explorers Club, are offering Mensun Bound, their member who discovered Ernest Shackleton’s ship, the Endurance at the bottom of the Weddell Sea, near where Sir Ernest parked it, just after the turn of the last century. Mensun is busy planning his next project, expanding the reach of research, scientific discovery, adventure and education in the spirit of Shackleton’s example (sans the harrowing self-rescue).

    Sunday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. will be our “U” world alphabet zoom. Zoom link to follow after we return from the South Pacific after October.

    To finish the year, we will have a lunch meeting at Lakewood on Saturday, Dec. 12. Please save the date. More information to follow.

    The Dallas group is going to reschedule their October meeting. Watch for more information.
